A TransAsia Airways (復興航空) plane crashed on Penghu yesterday, killing at least 47 people, the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) said last night.

The flight from Greater Kaohsiung crashed near the Magong Airport’s runway with 54 passengers and four crew on board, the agency said.

Minister of Transportation and Communications Yeh Kuang-shih (葉匡時) said that 47 people were confirmed dead and 11 injured.

According to the CAA, the 70-seat turboprop ATR72 model plane carried 54 passengers and four crew.

TransAsia Flight GE222 had been scheduled to depart Greater Kaohsiung at 4pm yesterday. However, because of Typhoon Matmo it was delayed, not departing until 5:43pm.CAA Director General Jean Shen (沈啟) said air traffic control personnel received the request from the flight for a go-around at the Magong Airport at 7:06pm, but they lost track of the flight afterward.

“It’s chaotic on the scene,” Reuters quoted Shen as saying.

The plane made a forced landing in Sisi Village (西溪), just outside the airport.

Several buildings on the ground were set on fire by the crash, but no one on the ground was injured, local officials said.

"A few empty apartment buildings adjacent to the runway caught fire, but no one was inside at the time and the fire was extinguished," said Hsi Wen-guang, a spokesman for the Penghu County Government Fire Bureau.

About 100 firefighters were sent to the scene, besides 152 military personnel and 255 police, he added.

CAA information said the pilot, Lee Yi-liang (李義良), 60, has 15 years of experience in flying civilian aircraft.

The co-pilot was identified as 39-year-old Chiang Kuan-hsing (江冠興).

Witnesses have said that there was heavy rain at the time. However, the CAA said that the visual range was 800 feet (243.8m), which was adequate for landing.

The agency said that it will dispatch officials to Penghu today to help with the investigation into the cause of the crash, but the investigation will be led by the Aviation Safety Council.

Penghu County Fire Department Director-General Hong Yung-peng (洪永澎) said the airplane tried to land at the airport, but had pulled up to make another try because the heavy rain was hampering the pilot’s vision.

Robin Williams was found dead in his bedroom in his Tiburon, Calif. home on August 11, hanging with a belt around his neck. Robin also had cuts on his wrist, and a pocket knife was found near his body. Sadly, this confirms that Robin died by his own hand.

The 63-year-old “killed himself,” police say, and are conducting an ongoing investigation of Robin Williams‘ death, as suicide by asphyxiation. Robin’s rep says that the actor had been battling severe depressing at his time of death. Update:Robin’s body was found by his personal assistant on Monday morning, while his wife, Susan Schneider, was out of their home, running errands.

Robin Williams Confirmed Dead From Suicide By Hanging

Robin Williams was found dead on the morning of August 11, and shocking details from the police reveal Robin’s death was said a suicide attempt by hanging, according to the Marin County Fire scanner audio, obtained by CBS News.Robin, who was last seen at his Tiburon, Calif. home where he died on Sunday, August 10 at 10:00 p.m., was found Monday, August 11 at 11:55 a.m. The 911 call reported a “male adult unconscious and not breathing.” Emergency personnel arrived just five minutes after the call at noon, and Robin was pronounced dead at 12:02 p.m.Robin was found by his personal assistant inside the main home, not his garage, andTMZ reports, it appears that he did not leave a suicide note. His assistant knocked on the door and window, and became concerned when there was no answer because Robin was supposed to be home, while his wife was running errands. The assistant then went inside and found the body.During an August 12 press conference at 11:00 a.m. in Calif., detailing the preliminary investigation, police said that Robin’s wife, Susan, assumed he was still sleeping when she woke up on the morning of his death.Police confirmed that Robin’s body was found cold to the touch, clothed, in a seated position. He had a belt around his neck, and superficial wounds were found on the inside of his left wrist. A pocket knife with a red substance, which has not been confirmed as blood, was found near his body. The primary cause of death is asphyxiation.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Robin Was Battling Severe Depression At Time Of Death

“Robin Williams passed away this morning,” his rep said in a statement. “He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division also released a statementto HollywoodLife.com, confirming Robin’s death: “An investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office…At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made. A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12, 2014 with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted.”
